The late Frank Zappa wrote an impressive amount and variety of music in his truncated lifetime, including affectionately goofy parodies of '50s doo-wop; blues-drenched, modal guitar rave-ups; satiric pop songs and complex orchestral compositions in unusual time signatures. His son Dweezil formed Zappa Plays Zappa in 2006 to keep that vast catalog before the public, handpicking a group of (then) mostly unknown musicians and augmenting them with selected veterans of FZ's band as needed. On this tour the ZPZ core ensemble — including Dweezil on guitar, recent vocal addition Ben Thomas and multi-instrumentalist/singer/fan-favorite Scheila Gonzalez — are performing all of Apostrophe ('), the 1974 album that was one of Zappa's more commercially successful efforts.
