In a sea of bands copping Gang Of Four's angular brand of dance-punk, Your Enemies Friends
are a welcome respite for those of us who like synths but get nervous looking at a dance floor. Formed in Los Angeles in 2001, the band (which has existed in various incarnations over the past five years), has toured with everyone from the Donnas to the Dillinger Escape Plan, despite the fact that their notoriously shit-talking label, Buddyhead, has far more enemies than friends (sorry). Your Enemies Friends are recording their follow-up to 2004's You Are Being Videotaped
at the end of the month, and if the MySpace demo of their brooding new song "Car Crash" is any indication, they're finally destined for mainstream success or steady rotation at hipster get-togethers everywhere.
