Wishing and Hoping

And walking

by

In a world filled with much uncertainty and heartbreak, it’s nice to see a glimmer of hope every now and then. Often, that sparkle of optimism comes during charity walks like the upcoming Step Forward to Cure Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. This somewhat-unknown genetic condition affects at least two children born each day, and around 50,000 people in the United States are living with TSC right now. And while this disorder can be devastating -- there is no known cure -- families and friends of those afflicted, and the individuals themselves, continually hope for assistance and raise funds to facilitate research and support programs. Just by participating in walks like the one happening today, you’ll not only benefit physically (walking two miles never hurt anyone), but also mentally as your presence buoys the spirits of those fighting for a cure. Step Forward takes place at Creve Coeur County Park (12101 Marine Avenue, Creve Coeur), and registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Tremayne Shelter; the walk steps off at 10 a.m. Any and all donations are much appreciated.
