Winter Jewels

by

comment
This being St. Louis, the Christmas season is either freezing cold and wonderful, or unseasonably warm and unreasonably damp -- often in the same week. To guarantee comfortable temperatures, visit the Butterfly House for Winter Jewels. You can search for fairies in the Tropical Conservatory, participate in a treasure hunt or make new friends in the Gnome House. The only drawback? Pirate cockroaches fight occasional battles during the event (don't they know Missouri is land-locked?). 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily (Nov. 28-Jan. 4, 2015; closed Christmas Day). Butterfly House (15193 Olive Boulevard, Chesterfield; 636-453-0076 or www.butterflyhouse.org). Free with regular admission ($3-$8).
Nov. 28-Dec. 24, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Dec. 26-Jan. 4, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 2014
