Joan Ackermann's comedy Off the Map is set in the outback of New Mexico, where everything else feels far, far away, and the few people you interact with every day end up comprising your entire world. The Groden family lives well off the grid in this isolated corner of the world, but their closed system is endangered when patriarch Charley falls into a deep depression. The arrival of an IRS agent investigating the Grodens' non-payment of taxes further complicates their lives. Off the Map is related from the perspective of precocious eleven-year-old daughter Bo Groden, who yearns for a normal life. The West End Players Guild opens its season with Off the Map. The show is performed at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (September 26 through October 5) at Union Avenue Christian Church (733 Union Boulevard; 314-667-5686 or www.westendplayers.org).
