You'd think that after eight years of the dive-bar circuit, the bashing, string-wrenching, country-punks Two Cow Garage would have called it quits or cleaned up their act. But this ain't no act — this is a band who turned to rock & roll as a way out of a working class Midwestern nowhere (a.k.a. Columbus, Ohio), only to find the nowhere known only to connoisseurs of flannel rock and songs about skinny-legged girls, binge despair and Peavey amplifiers. The band's 2008 record, Speaking in Cursive, takes a hard look at its dreams, indulges in some doubt, then raises a duct-taped Telecaster to the stage lights and lets the twang grunge, Hammond organ riffs and collective vocal attrition rip.
