Twice As Nice

Amazing finds personally found at the Book House (9719 Manchester Road, Rock Hill; 314-968-4491 or www.bookhousestl.com): Washington Irving's The Sketchbook and Ivan Turgenev's Sketches from a Hunter's Album; Edgar Rice Burroughs' At the Earth's Core and his Tarzan at the Earth's Core; Michael Moorcock's The Brothel in Rosenstrasse and an Audubon flip-book identifying the common birds of Europe. Everything in pairs, for reasons that escape detection. A good book store should have the element of the wondrous to it, and the reputedly haunted Book House certainly does contain wonders within its stuffed-to-bursting walls. This Saturday through Monday (May 23 through 25), many of those wonders come outdoors for the third installment of the Book House Tent Sale. Prices will be marked down inside and out, refreshments will be available, and all proceeds go to Camp Barnabas and the Second Chapter Center. See? Twin charities, and the matched pleasures of doing a good deed and acquiring more books. Always in pairs.
