Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony appropriates structural concepts and sounds from Indian music, ancient Greek rhythms, gamelan orchestras and the composer's beloved birdsongs. Turangalîla is a blockbuster of a piece, and it requires a great deal of background to fully appreciate Messiaen's many allusions and themes. Fortunately, David Robertson and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra are happy to guide you through its intricacies with Discover Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony.
