Street Sounds in the Loop. No, it's not the siren of a heavy rescue truck from the fire department on a hi-lo wail through the lunch rush of Delmar diners, or the gliding backbeat of skateboards across sidewalk cracks; it's a symphony sprung from the street and onto the stage at the Center of Contemporary Arts. San Francisco-based Street Sounds, a smooth a cappella quintet, unify their voices in expressions of exultation and exclamation in songs that range from African chants to R&B, from rap to blues, from civil-rights songs to jazz numbers, including arrangements by members of the group. Vocal performances at this level make you smile, sigh, rejoice and cry and are available in five performances, Dec. 4-6.
