The World According to Monsanto

Monsanto is a prickly topic in St. Louis. The agribusiness giant employs a great number of people locally, all of whom have a vested interest in how the company is portrayed and viewed. But French documentary film maker Marie-Monique Robin has no such compunctions about Monsanto's public face, and so she dove enthusiastically into the company's past controversies (misleading reports about products, some of which were toxic) and its present business practices, which include patenting genetically-engineered crops. Robin's The World According to Monsanto includes interviews with Monsanto personnel, people who claim to be victims of the company's actions and food activists. The World According to Monsanto screens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Moore Auditorium on Webster University's campus (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487 or, and is followed by a round-table discussion with Monsanto representatives. It should make for an interesting conversation, to say the least. Admission is $4 to $6.
