The Winter's Tale

When: Mon., Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m. 2015

What can divide two friends faster than jealousy? In Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, King Leontes and King Polixenes are life-long pals enjoying a nine-month-long visit. But when Polixenes wants to return home, Leontes asks his own pregnant wife to convince him to stay. Hermione succeeds, and a suspicious Leontes decides his wife is having an affair with Polixenes — how else could she sway him? Leontes swiftly hires an assassin to kill his friend and throws his wife in prison. The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company presents this story of madness and paranoia from England via live simulcast. Branagh plays Leontes, with Dame Judi Dench in the role of Paulina, Hermione's wise and loyal friend. You can see it locally at 7:30 p.m. at the AMC Chesterfield 14 (3000 Chesterfield Mall, Chesterfield; www.fathomevents.com). Tickets are $15.
