The Unknown Travels and Dubious Pursuits of William Clark

When: Thu., Aug. 25, 7-9 p.m. 2016

A talk about my book, THE UNKNOWN TRAVELS AND DUBIOUS PURSUITS OF WILLIAM CLARK, and a signing afterward. The book is based on journal Clark kept during a nearly forgotten journey he made to Spanish New Orleans in 1798, five years before he set off on the Expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Overlooked or misunderstood until now, this 1798 journal--corroborated by a trove of evidence from faraway sources--reveals Clark not as an artless agent of American expansion but instead as a man of complex motives and perhaps divided loyalties.
