Most dismiss mainstreamo as nothing but stupid haircuts, whiny vocals and self-obsessed lyrics. But for each of the last eight years, the Take Action! Tour has championed the charitable nature of that scene. Presented by Hopeless Records (and its non-profit label, Sub City), the annual trek raises funds for and awareness of youth-oriented charities; this year's beneficiary is DoSomething.org. Cute Is What We Aim For, a band whose of-the-time pop splits the difference between Ben Kweller and the All-American Rejects, headlines. Also on the bill are the burnt-sugar-pop sister act Meg & Dia (which will return to town in April as a headliner at Fubar), '90s-rock preservers Every Avenue, electro-poppers Breathe Carolina and newcomers Anarbor.
