Sure, it might have been a shocking band name twenty-plus years ago, but really, calling your band the Queers is almost quaint today. (Keep in mind, we live in a world where there are active, somewhat-successful bands called AIDS Wolf, Fuck Buttons and Selfish Cunt.) But while its name might not offend anymore, the Queers still cranks out high-octane (and Ramones-influenced) pop-punk night after night. (The band's fan base, a seemingly never-ending stream of sixteen-year-olds sporting fresh Mohawks and not-nearly-scuffed-enough Doc Martens, is similarly consistent.) And yes, this band is really all about the live show, but this year's Back to the Basement isn't just not bad — it's actually pretty good. And really, what better compliment can one pay to a punk band?
