The Pomonas / the Helium Tapes

Tuesday, May 2, at 9 p.m. Cicero's (6691 Delmar Boulevard, University City)

Awful dating experiences aside, the Internet is an amazing tool to bring people together. Why, just the other day the Pomonas sent me a MySpace friend request, inviting me to check out their tunes. Clicking over to the Lawrence, Kansas, band's page reveals a group indebted to the coiled guitar noodling of Television and Guided by Voices' grungy indie-rock — with a dash of airy power-pop (perhaps a less-quirky Shins?) thrown in for good measure. These road warriors cancelled their fall 2005 tour to record the upcoming CD, When You're Electric, but they'll likely be in fine form at Cicero's opening for the Helium Tapes.
