Three Yorkshire couples are devastated when mutual friend George Riley announces he only has a few months to live. The friends try to help by inviting George to join their local dramatic group, but somehow each partner's past infidelities make it a fraught, rather than enjoyable, process. George tells them all he plans to go on one last holiday, and individually invites all the wives to accompany him -- which doesn't sit well with their husbands. French director Alain Resnais adapted Alan Ayckbourn's play Life of Riley
into a comic feature with all the dialogue in French and all the props (newspapers, groceries and maps) in English. Cinema St. Louis presents Resnais' final picture as part of the St. Louis International Film Festival.
