The Flora and the Fauna

Together under the big top

To put it plainly, Circus Flora is one of our city’s most wonderful treasures. From the moment that enormous ruby-red tent is pitched in the middle of Grand Center (at the corner of North Grand Boulevard and Samuel Shepard Drive), the big top casts a surreal, magical feel upon the entire area, drawing in people to witness the thrilling one-ring show and offering an air of fantasy to our everyday lives. “Sherwood Forest” is this year’s circus theme, which is brought to life under the artistic direction of Ivor David Balding and through performances by the Flying Wallendas up on the high wire, the trapeze act Duo Madrona, Nino the Clown, horseback gymnasts, jugglers, musicians and even some talented goats! The cost to attend this theatrical, fantastical experience would please even Robin Hood -- tickets start at just $8! To make a purchase, call up 314-534-1111 or visit www.metrotix.com. The tent comes alive at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, at 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday, and at 10 a.m. on Wednesday mornings from Thursday, June 5, through Sunday, June 22. Learn more about all of the performers and Circus Flora’s history at www.circusflora.org. And note: The big tent is air-conditioned and now has seats with backs!
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 5. Continues through June 22, 2008
