The Drams

6 p.m. Friday, June 15. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue.

Although the unfortunately monikered Slobberbone was never as well known as peers the Drive-By Truckers or Son Volt, the band released four nearly perfect alt-country albums during its eleven-year tenure. After splitting in 2005, three of the band's members (including frontman Brent Best) formed the Drams, and although the group's twangy pop is more polished than Slobberbone's gritty, guitar-driven rock, it's equally satisfying. In fact, the Drams' debut, Jubilee Drive, stands up to the 'Bone's finest material — and while Best will probably never be recognized as one of our greatest living songwriters, standout tracks "Truth Lies Low" and "You Won't Forget" prove that maybe he should be.
