The Civil War by Boat

Hey, heard the news? It's the sesquicentennial of the start of the Civil War, and that's a pretty big deal. Now, you can tour any number of battlefield sites, and in so doing, you're going to be on dry land the whole time. But if you feel like getting your Yankee/Johnny Reb fix on the water, get yourself and your history-loving friends and family downtown to the riverfront for a Civil War Sesquicentennial Anniversary Cruise. Every day through the end of the summer (June 21 through September 5), you can board a replica nineteenth-century paddle wheeler, enjoy the views of St. Louis and the Mississippi from the unbeatable perspective of the river itself, and learn about St. Louis' key role in the Civil War from an onboard National Park Service ranger. Cruises run from noon to 1 p.m. — just head to Gateway Arch Riverboats (11 North Fourth Street). Admission costs $8 and $14; Please note the cruises are subject to cancellation because of flooding; call 877-982-1410 to confirm availability and purchase tickets, or visit www.coreofdiscovery.com for further information.
