The Chosen Festival

The St. Louis Jewish Book Festival is here again, offering more than 30 speakers in its eleven-day run (beginning with an appearance by Paul Reiser on Sunday, November 4, and continuing daily through Thursday, November 15; no author events are scheduled for Saturday, November 10). Authors’ subjects range from deeply personal tales to comedic anecdotes and from societal analysis to historical insight. The speakers on Monday, November 5, include Gary Belsky, a sports writer, and Lucinda Franks, a Pulitzer Prize winner. Plus, later on in the fest, Judith “Miss Manners” Martin shares advice from her book No Vulgar Hotel on how to traipse all over Europe, and actor and photographer Leonard Nimoy talks about his work The Full Body Project, which is a series of images of full-bodied women (Star Trek fans, those curious about photography and challengers of the heroin-chic look, take note). The majority of the events are held at the Jewish Community Center (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur). Individual event tickets ($12 to $35) are available as are series tickets ($60).
