The Bounce Back

To be resilient is to pull it together and let the interruptions go after being stretched just a little too thin by outside circumstances. Artists Maria Ojascastro and Rudy Zapf have taken the word's meaning to heart by pulling together fragments of paint, text, paper, recovered items and prints to make art for their collaborative show Breathe. Through this artistic meditation, the viewer is left to contemplate what it means in his or her own life to be resilient. Is it moving on after a breakup? Is it allowing yourself a long nap after a night of too much fun? Or is it simply finding what you thought was lost, making peace and letting it go? Only time can tell -- but in the meantime, let Ojascastro and Zapf's creations be your guide. Breathe opens with a free public reception at 6 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or The show remains up through Sunday, September 7, and the gallery is open Monday through Saturday.
