The Big Take-Off

Burlesque dynamo Lola van Ella always gives the people what they want, so it's not surprising to see the return of the Show-Me Burlesque and Vaudeville Festival (Thursday through Saturday, May 16 to 18). Burlesque performers from across the country give their all at the fest, which spans three venues and culminates in the big, blow-out Beggar's Carnivale at 8 p.m. Saturday at Casa Loma Ballroom (3354 Iowa Avenue). See stars such as Peekaboo Pointe, Midnite Martini and Perle Noire strut their stuff with Pixie Nyx and the one and only Lola van Ella, and enjoy the usual carnival games, hooch tent and vendors that make up the Beggar's Carnivale. Thursday night's show is at 2720 Cherokee Street and Friday's takes place at Koken Art Factory (2500 Ohio Avenue). Tickets for Saturday's show are $20 to $50, but your best bet is the $65 weekend pass, which gets you into all the shows. For more information, visit www.showmeburlesque.com.
