Tarana Burke

Tarana Burke founded Just Be Inc. in 2006, to help young black women empower themselves to grow up and become resilient and confident women. At the same time, Burke began the Me Too movement, helping girls who had been victimized by sexual abuse know that they are not alone with their pain, and that in time they can overcome it. Me Too became a slow-moving wave that recently gained speed as a rallying cry for women of every color and walk of life, because misogyny and sexism don't discriminate. Burke will be in St. Louis to deliver the Black History Month lecture at Webster University's Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road; www.events.webster.edu), and the event is open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
