Take Notes

Think back to your freshman year of college: the drinking, the new-friend-making, the near-flunking-out — why were those entry-level courses so damn difficult? Anyway, you survived, and you don't even use any of those higher-learning skills in your boring cubicle job. In fact, the only proficiency you retain from those glory days involves imbibing. But when have you ever studied drinking? That's what we thought. It's about time you joined a beginner class in which you are guaranteed to excel: The Hermann Wine Trail offers Wine 101 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (January 13 and 14). For once, you'll be grateful that participation is required (via tasting), and eating in class is permitted. Plus, you're bound to make new friends as folks at six wineries (including Röbller Vineyard, 275 Röbller Vineyard Road, New Haven) teach you how winemakers do what they do. Course tuition costs $15; enroll in advance at
Sat., Jan. 13; Sun., Jan. 14
