When: Mon., June 6, 8 p.m. 2016
There's nothing you can do to prepare yourself for the waves of sound that Sunn 0))) generates at a live show. Every cell in your being will be rippled by the subharmonic frequencies that emanate from the four hooded drone monks (Greg Anderson, Stephen O'Malley, Attila Csihar and Toz Nieuwenhuizen) hidden in endless banks of fog. There are no drums, no stage banter, no breaks between songs, no real songs at all. Instead you get a stylized ritual from some pre-cataclysmic era. Csihar's howling and croaking is the litany, and the pulsing guitars are the drug that transport your psyche to another plane. At the band's 2009 show at the Firebird, Anderson hung his bass by the neck from the lighting rig so that it could roar alone in the tempest, our idiot god destroying us and recreating us in its image. Just try to stay hydrated and don't expect to talk on the phone for a few days afterward.
