Strings Attached

Michael Hollinger's Opus is a play about a string quartet skirting along a series of potential disasters. First violinist Elliot has had to make the difficult decision to fire the talented but temperamental second violinist, Dorian, effectively ending Elliot and Dorian's long-term personal relationship with the same stroke. The remaining members choose to hire Grace as Dorian's replacement; she's extremely talented but unblooded. Can the group rehearse enough to build the necessary rapport before their next gig, a televised performance at the White House? Will Dorian resurface and ruin the whole thing? The West End Players' Guild performs Opus at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (April 5 through 14) at the Union Avenue Christian Church (733 North Union Boulevard; 314-367-0025 or www.westendplayers.org). Try to get there a little early, though, as local chamber music groups will play prior to every performance except the Sunday, April 7, show. Tickets are $20.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: April 5. Continues through April 14, 2013
