Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers

8 p.m. Friday, April 23. The Roberts Orpheum Theater, 416 North Ninth Street.

After Steve Martin co-hosted the Academy Awards with Alec Baldwin in March, he regrouped for a few weeks and then went on tour playing the banjo. Yup, the accomplished actor has been an accomplished musician for years now: In fact, his 2009 album, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, won a "Best Bluegrass Album" Grammy this year and spent 30 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums charts. It's also worth mentioning that Martin wrote or arranged and performed all of the songs on the album — and that it has guest appearances from Vince Gill, Dolly Parton and Earl Scruggs, among others. Martin will be joined on the tour by the Steep Canyon Rangers, a North Carolina bluegrass band.
