The New Line Theatre people must have a direct link with the universe: The same season they decide to stage Jesus Christ Superstar, the actual, real, authentic Gospel of Judas emerges after centuries underground. Why is that amazing? Because Superstar is the musical that tells the story of history's most famous carpenter from Mr. Iscariot's perspective. To further muddle things/blow your mind, the two actors portraying Jesus and Judas will swap roles every weekend. Plus, this particular production is set in 2006 with its political implications and contemporary parallels fully highlighted. Sound heavy? At least Superstar has more songs than The Da Vinci Code. Catch the musical at the ArtLoft Theatre (1529 Washington Avenue); it runs Thursday through Saturday (June 1 through 24) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $18 through MetroTix (314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com). See www.newlinetheatre.com for more information.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 1. Continues through June 24
