Nov 20, 2014 at 4:00 am
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra presents Encore, the latest installment in the Whitaker Foundation's Music You Know series highlighting classical works with mainstream appeal. This vibrant program emphasizes the syncopation of music and drama. Conductor David Robertson and violinists Dana Edson Myers and Rebecca Boyer Hall lead the orchestra through Mussorgsky's masterpiece Night On Bald Mountain, made famous via Disney's Fantasia. Also on the bill are Norwegian Edvard Grieg's In The Hall Of The Mountain King from Peer Gynt along with Tchaikovsky's tone poem Marche Slave and Copland's Hoe-Down, a folksy burst of gusto from his 1942 ballet, Rodeo.
