Now in its seventh year, Art on the Square has grown to encompass more than 100 artists who work in paint, wood, glass and ceramics, all set up in booths on Belleville's public square (Highway 159 and Main Street, Belleville, Illinois; www.artonthesquare.com). In addition to perusing and purchasing the finished work by these talented local and visiting artists, you can watch new art being made at demonstrations by the SIU-Carbondale Glassblowers and members of the Gateway Artists' Guild. Fair patrons can also enjoy a multitude of entertainment acts on various stages, and sample the vintners arts in the International Wine Court. Art on the Square is open 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (May 16 through 18). Admission is free, but you'll want to bring the checkbook for obvious reasons.
