The list of American musical geniuses and game-changers is short but sweet. While Louis Armstrong, Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder all advanced the form of popular song, few artists before — or since — have put as much sweat, showmanship and ego into a performance as Mr. Dynamite, James Brown. At his peak, Brown had the tightest band, the best dance moves and the most searing, funky songs in R&B. To honor the man's contributions to the soul canon, KDHX (88.1 FM) is throwing a tribute concert, Soul Brothers & Sisters! The event features plenty of local talent: Artists scheduled to perform include trombonist Lamar Harris, reggae legends Murder City Players, funk warriors Dogtown Allstars and hip-hop tastemaker DJ Needles. The stylistic breadth of the performers is a testament to how far James Brown's influence has reached.
