Songs of the South

There's a storm brewin' in Armadillo Acres, although what else would you expect in a trailer park? The little Florida community is populated by people with problems that are coming to a head. There's Jeannie, an agoraphobic who hasn't left her trailer in almost twenty years. Her husband, Norbert, finds himself attracted to the new resident, Pippi the stripper, who is both outgoing and capable of going outside. This potential love triangle is watched over and gossiped about by Betty, Pickles and Lin, a trio of busybodies who make it their business to know about people's business. But who's that menacing guy with the magic markers, and why is he stalking Pippi? David Nehls and Betsy Kelso's The Great American Trailer Park Musical offers a skewed look at life down south, with a soundtrack that veers from country to disco and several points in between. Dramatic License Productions opens its new season with The Great American Trailer Park Musical at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (September 5 through 21) at the Dramatic License Theatre (291 Chesterfield Mall, Chesterfield; 314-821-1746 or www.dramaticlicenseproductions.com). Tickets are $20 to $28.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 5. Continues through Sept. 21, 2014
