Something New

Left Bank Books in the Central West End (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) hosts author readings weekly, sometimes daily. But how many of those writers are reading something they wrote expressly for the occasion of being at Left Bank? The Immediacy Theatre Project's soloLAB performance may be a first for the venerable bookstore. Seven writers have written shortish one-person plays inspired by a singular moment or collection of related moments that resonate in the writer's life — and all of the plays have been written in past the month for the soloLAB performances. Danielle Borsch's "Raven," for example, was sparked by her grammar obsession (that's Danielle, pictured). Kyle Kratky's piece "Selective Memory" is based on his experiences growing up around Southern Illinois' Lake of Egypt. The readings/performances of these new works occur at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (February 27 and 28). Admission is free, and donations will be accepted gratefully.
