Solo Solal

Though women (Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, and Nancy Wilson, to name a few) have made significant inroads over the years, the arena of electric guitar is still dominated by male players. Acoustic is a different tune -- in fact, many of the world’s premier classical guitarists are female. Count France’s Gaëlle Solal among them. Solal, a native of Marseilles, is a much-lauded young musician who has toured around the world, playing in more than 30 countries. Tonight, though, she makes her St. Louis debut at 8 p.m. at the Ethical Society (9001 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights; 314-991-0955) as a guest of the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society. Have you ever heard a classical guitar recital at this venue? If you love the instrument and its harmonic and tonal wonders, be sure to experience how especially gorgeous it sounds among the acoustically propitious wood walls and ceiling of the Ethical Society; you are in for a sonic treat. Tickets are $20 to $24 and are available at www.guitarstlouis.net.
