So Many Dynamos

8 p.m. Saturday, June 27. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

We locals can be forgiven for feeling mighty proud of So Many Dynamos right about now. After all, we've seen the post-everything quartet grow from a spazzy-behind-the-ears band into a formidable live act that's opened for Ra Ra Riot and Death Cab for Cutie. Vagrant Records just released the band's third album, The Loud Wars, although the Dynamos recorded the LP nearly two years ago with DCFC's Chris Walla. Wars' stacked keyboards, intricate drums and theoretical-math guitars explode from the stereo, thanks to mixer Alex Newport (who's worked with At the Drive-In, O'Death and the Mars Volta, among others). But SMD's ever-growing talent is best experienced live, where its new songs are tweaked with ghostly synth segues and subtle rhythms, and tempo shifts update old favorites such as "We Vibrate, We Do" and "Progress."
