Shotgun Wedding

Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro is a cornerstone of modern opera repertoire, but it's a little long. Multiple pairs of lovers and would-be lovers are constantly spying on, hiding from and pursuing one another with various degrees of success — everybody gets a moment in the spotlight, but sometimes you wish they'd stop talking and get back to the singing. UMSL Opera Theatre presents The Marriage of Figaro, Sliced and Diced, a dialogue-light version that eschews all the scheming and concentrates on the singing. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 3 p.m. Sunday (March 11 through 13) at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org). Admission is free.
