Short and Long

The St. Louis International Film Festival is back and it's bigger than ever. With a festival this large, it can be difficult to decide what to watch. Webster University's Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue) offers a little taste of everything with the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase Shorts at 7 p.m. Included is Dustin Maassen's "The Magician," a charming two-minute animated story of a street magician who tries to win over his heart's desire with a series of tricks. Showing at 7 p.m. at Plaza Frontenac (1701 South Lindbergh Boulevard) is Rage, Sebastián Cordero's full-length feature about a passionate Latino couple in America stuck in dead-end service jobs. When Rosa's husband, José María, has to escape without telling anyone because of a violent incident at work, he hides himself in the mansion in which she works and helplessly watches her employer's cruel treatment. Tickets to both programs are $10 to $12, and a complete schedule is available at
