Saturday, February 4; the Billiken Club (20 North Grand Boulevard)

Chuck Shirock was born in Detroit, raised in Glasgow, spent time in the Philippines and currently lives in Nashville. But despite his traveler's soul, his heart resides in Manchester — England, that is. His eponymous band culls the blithest bits from Britpop: Starsailor's wounded, soaring vocals; Oasis' rote, linear guitar solos; and Coldplay's cloying piano chords. In other words, the band rarely employs the "rock" in Shirock, opting instead for pretty words and affecting melodies. The band may not be the second coming (hey, even the Stone Roses blew that one), but there are worse ways to spend a Saturday night. This show is free and open to the public.
