This month features Soren Kraugh-Jacobsen's Island on Bird Street (2000). Set in a Jewish ghetto in Poland during the Holocaust, Island on Bird Street tells the story of a young boy hiding from the Nazis after his father and uncle are taken away. Comforted by his pet mouse and favorite book, The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, he searches for sustenance and creates his own adventures in the loft of an old building, all the while waiting for his father to return and save him.
