Boys Don't Cry. Kimberly Peirce. The story of a cross-dressing girl who preferred life in her male identity. Part of a film series sponsored by the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. Godard returns to the existential, surreal world he explored in the '60s with a challenging, nonlinear, confusing film composed of memorable shots and bizarre scenes: A man reads a blank book, an attractive woman flashes passengers in a car, Hollywood wants to buy the story of a couple who fought in the Resistance. Midnights at the Tivoli. The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves, kicks off first in a series co-sponsored by the Riverfront Times and 105.7 The Point. Screens at midnight Friday-Saturday, May 9-10, at the Tivoli. NR

Road to Zanzibar. Victor Schertzinger. Chuck (Bing Crosby) and his pal Fearless (Bob Hope) have jungle adventures featuring two attractive con women (Dorothy Lamour and Una Merkel). Second in the St. Louis Public Library's festival marking the 100th birthdays of Hope and the Bingster.
