Sculpture Culture

This Saturday, October 7, world-renowned sculptors Philippe Richard and Tobias Putrih unveil their first-ever American solo shows at the same place — Laumeier Sculpture Park (12580 Rott Road, Sunset Hills; 314-821-1209 or — and the same time — 7 p.m. Richard is French and Putrih is Slovenian, which also happen to be the nationalities of arguably the two most famous philosophers of the past twenty years: Jacques Derrida and Slavoj Zizek. Seeing as there are no happy accidents, this combination of sculptors must mean something. Let's see: Richard's outdoor piece, titled Saint Louis, is made out of a mile of solid wood, while Putrih's work is often made of cardboard and appears to magically disintegrate. Is this a classic deconstructionist-vs.-dialectical-materialist showdown? (We have no idea what that means.) Attend the opening, and throw that question out to your neighbor. Good times for all involved. Both Richard's and Putrih's work will remain up through Sunday, January 14.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 7. Continues through Jan. 14
