Royal Bangs' latest album, Let It Beep, appears to be having an identity crisis of sorts. Its twelve tracks cover a lot of sonic territory — from super-percussive dance infections ("My Car Is Haunted") to gritty, punk-tinged folk numbers ("Poison Control," "Shit Xmas") and even spaced-out synthesizer experiments ("Conquest II"). But the glue that holds these tunes together is an industrial strength, space-aged polymer composed of slick production and infectious melodies and beats — all of which burrow deep and demand an improvised dance party regardless of where the listener might be. With the support of '80s synth-masters and sexy falsetto-funkists Tigercity rounding out this bill, it should make for a sweat-drenched dance-tastic evening.
