Rosie Flores/Jon Langford

7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue.

Worlds collide in the pairing of rockabilly filly Rosie Flores and country communist Jon Langford, but sometimes music trumps ideology, the Mekons and Music Row notwithstanding. The two collaborated on the Pine Valley Cosmonauts' Langford-led anti-death-penalty album, The Executioner's Last Song, and last year's Girl of the Century. The latter was career record for Flores: It marries all of her swing, honky-tonk, surf and back-to-basics rock & roll at the altar of irreverent covers of Memphis Minnie, Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn, plus a handful of originals that showcase her underrated guitar chops and Langford's unfussy, live-in-the-studio vision. And even if the duo weren't making supremely sassy country sounds together, its standup routine would be worth the price of admission.
