In her new novel I Always Loved You, author Robin Oliveira plays "what if?" with a rumored affair between a young Mary Cassatt and the mercurial rebel with a paintbrush, Edgar Degas. Fleeing a post-Civil War America, Cassatt immersed herself in the salons of Belle Epoque Paris only to find her work rejected. Her introduction to Edgar makes her Lady Degas-ga, igniting a tempestuous relationship that explores the nature of art and the scandal of passion. Oliveira discusses and signs copies of her book in a program presented by the St. Louis County Library Foundation.
