Rifftrax Skewers Birdemic

Forty-five years after Alfred Hitchcock, the "Master of Suspense," released The Birds, James Nguyen, the self-proclaimed "Master of the Romantic Thriller," premiered Birdemic, spiritual successor to Hitch's film and one of the worst movies of the last quarter century. Though it's loaded with inane dialogue, inept editing and CGI killer birds that look like they were generated by a 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System, the feather in Birdemic's cap is third-billed star Tippi Hedren, who was quite prominent in Hitchcock's picture as well. Her star turn this time is a literal blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit of archival footage beaming from a thirteen-inch CRT television screen, barely visible during a love scene between the two protagonists in a Motel 6. Tonight at 7 p.m., Mike Nelson's RiffTrax team of Mystery Science Theater 3000 alumni skewers this turkey with its comedic quips in a live simulcast available only in movie theaters. You can catch the show locally at the Regal St. Louis Mills Stadium 18 (5555 St. Louis Mills Boulevard, Hazelwood; Tickets are $12.50.
