Relient K

8 p.m. Saturday, October 24. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

After releasing six albums over the course of eleven years, it's strange to think that Canton, Ohio's Relient K is just now hitting its stride. The quintet's latest album, this month's Forget and Not Slow Down, is an absolutely spectacular representation of what Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard might sound like if he fronted a piano-pop-punk band. Matt Thiessen's lovelorn vocals and vital-organs-on-sleeve lyrics don't necessarily mimic Gibbard; instead, Thiessen draws upon him as inspiration to create one of the best breakup albums of the '00s to date. Don't expect Thiessen & Co. to get all emo in concert, though: The band is known for a playful, raucous live show and for including a wild variety of covers, including theme songs from The Office and Full House.
