Nations bordering the Baltic Sea share a heritage in Christmas celebrations, and we explore this rich tradition. The extraordinary Magnificat by Polish Renaissance composer Zielenski is complemented by a recent series of Magnificat antiphons by the great Estonian Arvo Part. Other works include those by Grieg, Kverno, and Jansson. The Chamber Chorus also performs Danish and Finnish carols. Highlighting the program are Schoenberg’s dramatic appeal for Peace on Earth and a new commission from acclaimed Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds.
