Ra Ra Riot

9 p.m. Tuesday, March 15. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

The worst thing you can say about Wes Miles' voice is that it's almost too good. His role as the lead singer of the orchestral indie band Ra Ra Riot allows Miles to use his clear, never faltering pipes to sweeten his band's already palatable chamber-pop. But if last year's The Orchard lacked some of the punch of the band's 2008 debut, The Rhumb Line, it's due to the fully formed vision that was so effortlessly realized on that first disc. But the new LP offers no shortage of little treasures. Cello and violin lines buzz around each other like bees, bubbly bass lines gurgle atop stuttering drum beats, and the '80s-era synth chords turn the gorgeous "Foolish" from a ballad to an anthem.
