Put a Godspell on You

Long before The Book of Mormon hit Broadway, Godspell was enchanting audiences with its funky, fresh, lighthearted take on the Gospel of St. Matthew. Godspell sprung the now-famous show tune "Beautiful City," and thanks to a recent Broadway revival, the show is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Throughout the two-act play the character Jesus shares the parables of the Good Samaritan, Lazarus and the Prodigal Son, and sings of compassion before ultimately meeting his fate -- a reimagined crucifixion via an electrical fence. Witness the stirring spectacle at the Family Musical Theater's production of Godspell, debuting tonight at 8 p.m. at the Ivory Theatre (7620 Michigan Avenue; 314-631-8330). Tickets range from $12 to $22. For more information, visit
