Pretty & Nice The Radical Sons

9 p.m. Friday, April 17. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

Boston's Pretty & Nice dabbles in a spastic and eclectic brand of songwriting where sudden shifts in mood and genre happen unexpectedly — sometimes within a single song. The band's latest album, Get Young, is definitely influenced by (if not firmly rooted in) the post-punk sounds of acts such as Devo and Talking Heads, but at times it also draws a line to more recent sounds like the poppy bounce of Franz Ferdinand or the hyperactive crunch of the Hives. But even though the band's music constantly keeps listeners on their toes, songs like "Tora Tora Tora" and "Piranha" are still ultra-infectious, tightly wound numbers chock full of positive energy. The Radical Sons opens.
